Mzansi’s Protea Power Takes Gold at RHS Chelsea  with a gold medal-winning protea display that had Londoners jaws on the ground.

Led by Leon Kluge & team, the exhibit captured the raw beauty of our fynbos kingdom—wild, windswept, and utterly iconic. And here’s a lekker local touch—rooibos tea was used to recreate that classic brak Coca-Cola-coloured water found in the Cape’s wild wetlands. Genius!

It wasn’t just about pretty flowers—this was a full-blown fynbos flex. The team packed 22,000 stems into the display, featuring rare hybrids like Protea “Snow Leopard” and the delicate Blushing Brides.

Sculptural clay elements didn’t just add drama—they symbolized the mountain ranges that shape the Cape’s floral magic.

Best of all? South Africa didn’t just win gold—it scored a perfect 10 from the RHS judges and bagged Best Exhibit in the Pavilion and Best New Design awards. Big up to Grootbos Private Nature Reserve and Hazendal Wine Estate for backing this world-class showcase.

With a four-year hiatus behind us, South Africa’s floral game is next level, and once again, we’ve proven gold looks good on us, hey?
